Celebrating 10 years of the Amy Winehouse Foundation Music Room Amy Winehouse’s remarkable music legacy plays 10 years on Children, families and staff joined Amy’s family Janis, Mitch and Jane Winehouse, together with Trustees from the Foundation, for a celebratory afternoon tea at the Woodford Green based hospice last week to mark the incredible milestone. Throughout the last decade the Foundation has provided a specialised Amy Winehouse Foundation Music Room and has supported the music therapy service to grow from one therapist to a team of three who deliver the joy and benefits of music to babies, children, young people and siblings in the hospice, in family homes and in hospitals. Ralph Coulbeck, Haven House’s Chief Executive, said: “The Amy Winehouse Foundation has been the driving force in supporting our music therapy service since its inception. “The legacy of Amy’s music and love for children and young people is enduring, and the Foundation’s generosity in providing our music therapy room is the source of much pride for Haven House. The link between Amy’s legacy and the support that we provide families tells a powerful story of how music can bring joy in the most challenging times.” The celebratory event was an opportunity to meet with children and families who have benefitted from music therapy and an opportunity to announce further funding for an Amy Winehouse Foundation Senior Music Therapist for the next three years. Haven House has exciting ambitions for the service and is focusing on delivering a wider range of interventions to both our children and their siblings. This includes targeted music groups such as under 5s and adolescents and expanding across Barts NHS Health Trust, a collection of three hospitals caring for thousands of children annually. Parents say that music therapy is the most important and valued therapy they receive at Haven House, and over 135 individual children benefitted from music therapy in 2023-2024. Mum Natasha Little, whose daughter Olivia is supported by the hospice, said: "Music therapy at Haven House is a wonderful way to see my daughter Olivia communicate and express herself. She is non-verbal and music helps break some of those communication barriers and enables her to feel listened to and heard. Music has been a big part of her life for the past ten years and she still gets so much enjoyment from the sessions, as do I!" “From the very first time we visited Haven House back in 2013, we knew straight away that this was something that would have been close to Amy’s heart. The remarkable power of music combined with the therapeutic expertise and nurturing care provided by Haven House is something we’re very proud to support.” Amy's Family
