In a remarkable display of determination and compassion, brothers Aaron and Matti Blitz walked 13 miles in just one day this July to raise funds for their local children’s hospice – Haven House.

Accompanied by friends and family, the duo, from Chigwell, embarked on their challenge early on a very wet Sunday morning. Starting from their favourite North London football club Tottenham Hotspur, they journeyed to Leyton Orient FC, before reaching their final destination Haven House – all while battling the unpredictable British weather conditions.

Their goal was not only to celebrate Aaron’s milestone birthday, and the youngster’s Barmitzvah, but also to raise vital funds for the hospice’s care services. Aaron's inspiration for the walk came from his desire to give back to the community and his admiration for the charity’ work.

"This is a significant moment in my life. I decided to use my Barmitzvah to set a mitzvah challenge by fundraising for Haven House. My challenge was set around the number 13. Before starting, I went for a tour of Haven House. This motivated me to push myself and to raise as much money as possible for Haven House.

"The children at the hospice face so many challenges every day, and I hope that our walk can help provide them with the care and support they need," said Aaron.

Haven House offers a range of services, including clinical care, emotional support, and respite care for families, making a significant impact on the lives of hundreds of seriously ill children and their families.

The siblings completed the walk in five hours, with passers-by cheering them on along the way. Their efforts have so far raised an incredible £3,790, surpassing their initial target of £1,300.

Sarah Harris, Community and Events Manager at Haven House, praised the siblings and all those who joined them for their outstanding efforts. She said:

“We are so proud of everyone’s dedication and compassion. Their determination to help others is truly inspiring. The walk not only raised essential funds but also highlighted the importance of our work. We thank Aaron and Matti and their army of supporters for their generosity and commitment to our mission.”
