A silver medal-winning garden from this year’s Royal Chelsea Flower Show has found its permanent home at Haven House Children’s Hospice, officially opened this week in a heartwarming ceremony attended by over 100 supporters.

The garden, designed by Hamzah-Adam Desai and kindly donated by Mental Health Innovations in partnership with MS Amlin, now offers a vibrant, therapeutic space for children and families supported by the hospice. Featuring a colour wheel-inspired planting design, sustainable materials, and immersive seating areas, the space is designed to promote reflection, calm and connection with nature.

The ribbon was cut by sisters Ava and Poppy Tuckwell, whose sister Orla was cared for by Haven House. Their touching tribute served as a poignant reminder of the precious lives at the heart of the hospice’s work.

Guests included hospice patron and local MP Sir Iain Duncan Smith, garden designer Hamzah-Adam Desai, hospice families and supporters.
Justin Derbyshire, CEO of Haven House, said:

This beautiful garden has been generously relocated here to Haven House, where it will now serve as a place of peace, reflection, and healing. It is more than just a garden - it’s a living symbol of resilience, of healing, and above all, of love.

Rt Hon Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP, a long-time supporter of the hospice, added:

“This new garden is a powerful symbol of Haven House’s holistic approach to care - supporting not just physical health, but also mental and emotional wellbeing. Nature plays a vital role in helping people heal and cope, and I’m proud to support an organisation that brings such comfort and hope to families in our community at their most difficult times.

The opening marks the start of Haven House’s expanding Nature Wellness Programme, which includes forest school sessions, outdoor sensory activities, and specialist support for children with complex needs.

The goal is to ensure that all families especially those facing life-limiting conditions can experience the proven benefits of time spent in nature. While access to green spaces can often be challenging for the children with complex needs, the hospice is working to bring nature directly to them offering comfort, connection, and moments of calm when they are needed most.

Haven House Children's Hospice needs to raise £6 million each year to be able to continue to care for the children and families we support.

By donating you are helping us to reach more seriously ill children and their families in your local communities.
