Ralph Coulbeck, CEO of Haven House Children’s Hospice, is preparing to say goodbye by taking on his seventh  and final challenge for the charity: running 13.1miles to raise vital funds for seriously ill children and their families.

Ralph has never been one to shy away from going the extra mile - literally. Over the course of his time at Haven House, he has thrown himself into physical and festive fundraising feats, including an epic mud run, a charity bike ride, the ever-popular Sparkle Walk, and even donning the red suit to become Father Christmas in the hospice’s magical grotto. Each challenge, a testament to his dedication to raising vital funds and awareness for the life-changing work of the hospice.

"As many of you know, my time at Haven House is coming to an end, and it’s hard to put into words just how much this incredible place means to me,” said Ralph.

Leaving is bittersweet - I’ve seen first-hand the love, care, and support that Haven House gives to seriously ill children and their families, and I want to do everything I can to ensure that continues.

His final challenge – the Hackney Half on May 18, will be the furthest he’s ever run, and a symbolic send-off to the charity he’s championed throughout his tenure.

Inspired by the hundreds of children and families cared for by Haven House, Ralph is determined to make this last effort count.
“I will always have amazing memories of watching our children playing in the sunshine with our brilliant staff, living life to the full and making amazing memories. That is what Haven House is about, and it’s a privilege to have been a small part of it.”

Ralph, who lives locally in Woodford Green, says Haven House has always been more than just a workplace - it’s a crucial part of his local community. As someone deeply rooted in the area - having gone to Chingford C of E Primary School, then Bancroft’s School, and now a player and coach at Woodford Wells Cricket Club and Crostyx Hockey Club in Woodford Bridge - he’s calling on friends, supporters, and the wider community to get behind him one last time.

Ralph concluded: “It’s further than I’ve ever run before (by a long way!), but every step will be worth it to help raise vital funds for this amazing charity. If you can spare anything at all, I’d be so grateful for your support. Haven House is truly life-changing, and together, we can make sure it continues to be there for every child who needs it.”

The Woodford-Green based hospice supports seriously ill children and their families, providing specialist care when they need it most. From respite stays and end-of-life care to support at home and in the community, the hospice helps families through life’s toughest moments.
