Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting and the Minister of State for Care Services, Stephen Kinnock, visited Haven House Children's Hospice today (Thursday 19 December) to make an encouraging announcement around hospice funding.

They met six-year-old Charlie, and twins Adam and Haider and spoke with their families around the importance of hospice care. The children enjoyed music and play therapy during the visit.

The visit coincided with a government funding announcement.

  • £100 million boost for adult and children's hospices "to ensure they have the best physical environment for care"
  • Confirmation that what has been known as the Children's Hospice Grant will be extended and increased to £26m for the 25/26 financial year
Ralph Coulbeck, Haven House's Chief Executive, said:
"We were delighted to welcome the Health Secretary to Haven House this morning; Wes has been a regular visitor to the hospice for many years. It will be a relief to everybody in the children's hospice sector to hear that the children's hospice grant is being maintained next year; this will help to support the vital care we provide to seriously ill children and families.
"It is also very positive to hear about the government's plans to invest significantly in the wider hospice sector; we hope that there will be as much flexibility as possible to determine locally how this new money is spent."

The announcement reflects the huge and obvious public recognition of the immense value to our hospices services to our local community.
